Welcome to Liam's "Bike-E" page.

the Bike-E CT

(Here, shown as it was in 2002)

a.k.a : the "Two-by-Four"

As of 2011 - It's on it's third set of tires, second chain, and is still being ridden...

. . . even after having been 'rented out' through the bike shop for several years.

(People can be rather rough on rental bikes)

I also have the "Bike-E" logo accessory bag for the back of the seat (OEM Bike-E Item).

Can't find a seatbag for your Bike-E ? Have no fear . . It's still made by the parent company that made them for Bike-E, just has the parent JANND company's logo (no longer available with the "bike-E" logo) sewn into it now. See > http://www.jandd.com

* Here it is with both Planet Bike black universal fit fenders, a 16" front fender on the front and a 20" front fender fitted to the back.

Here's my light solution . . . 1" diameter flashlights and old reflector mounts used as holders. . .

1" size - sideways mount - for the flashlights, and the 5/8" mounts for the bars and a 1-1/8" for the steering neck.

Simply screw the frame clamps together end to end. See below for a image of the fitment.

...and here's my more recent aquisition: the under seat pannier bag holder rack (Original Bike-E Item) and AXIOM Pannier Bags...

I purchased the pannier racks off a dual seat Bike-E,

...from the bike's seller...

. . . before it was sold through the bike shop by the owner.

A big 'thanks' to Go Bent Bikes for continuous "radar sweep" for Bike-E stuff!

Here it is parked in my tiny apartment space 2007.

There has been a upgrade of the wheels as of February 2008.

The original Bike-E front hub was getting to show signs of wear/age and the rims were getting worn thin from the brakes.

When I bought a brand new B.O.B. trailer I realized the 16" wheel for the trailer (now installed on the Bike-E as shown above left) was actually a better wheel for the front of the Bike-E (28 spokes / instead of the Bike-E's original 16 spoke) therefore the wheel swap happened. The BOB Trailer wheel went straight on without modification, except I put a better tire on the replaced rim first. I got a pair of KENDA tires to replace the old "gummy walls".

However : Over two decades of hard riding finally wore out the rear 3-Speed hub gearing. Since I have figured out what went wrong with the Shimano 8 speed hub (from a previous story), it's the available replacement.

It replaces two sets of shifters and a combination 3sp hub and 7sp derailer in the back.

The single NEXUS-8 geared hub is a far simpler shifing mechanism than a chain derailer ~ geared hub combo, and has almost the same gear range.

(above) The shifter on the bike. The shifter is easy to use.

I had to combine two types of chain tensioners to get a useable "chain guide".

Here's the Bike-E new rear wheel assembly installed.

I used a 'single chainwheel' spring-loaded tensioner arm (manufacture unknown) meant for "Fixies" - with a Rohloff two wheel spring tensioned cage adapted to it - to keep the chain from being too loose.

Almost looks like it was meant to be that way!

The 'Big Rig' goodies getter. It's really easy to get up hills with a load of food.

With the single front sprocket being small, and the geared hub having a low first gear ratio, the new setup is very light on uphill cranking. Under a load of combined panniers full and a trailer loaded with bags of can foods, it is still not terribly difficult to go up a steep cross street. I'm slow though. I also have a small ice-chest that fits the trailer, for the frozen stuff.

I re-laced the Bike-E original front wheel 16 spoke rim (after I painted the old rim satin black) with a black 32 hole 'racing' front hub from the local shop's bike parts bin. I 'straight laced' the hub every other spoke hole with sixteen heavy gage spokes, and put it on the trailer. While I was at it I replaced the original tire with a KENDA.

By the way. . . I painted the original BOB silver steel fender with bright orange epoxy paint too, just in case you were wondering...

Bike-E now repainted in gloss blaze orange...
